One of the SolidWorks 2013 Sneak Peek Features from the SolidWorks Blog…

In SolidWorks 2013, you can exclude selected components in Interference Detection. You can filter components with matching cosmetic threads from Interference Detection results and place them in a separate folder. You can exclude interferences involving hidden components, as well as exclude selected components from Interference Detection results. Optionally, you can specify to remember components to exclude from session to session. This video shows how this applies to cosmetic threads.

Get Approved For An Objet 3D Printer with Direct Capital!

DirectCapital Financing and EngATech Inc

Objet and EngATech have partnered with Direct Capital in order to provide an online portal where prospects interested in financing options, such as lease to own or lease to rent, may find out whether or not they are approved in minutes. Your company can apply directly on their website for interest rates as low as 5.9%, in addition to finding out payments based on the term you select. SolidWorks 2013 Beta has been released!

Each release of SolidWorks is preceded by a beta program. Participating in beta programs gives you the opportunity to test the new release, identify any critical issues, and submit bugs for correction before the SP0 release.

SolidWorks 2013 includes many new user-driven enhancements – along with some entirely new areas of functionality.

SolidWorks 2013 Beta Testing

SolidWorks 2013 Beta is now available. For all you curious people out there, you can now download and install SolidWorks 2013 Beta, just log in to the Customer Portal to sign up today! (If you need help logging in, click here)

Learn about the fun contests and valuable prizes for Beta participants!!

The Beta program has evolved into an active and vibrant community where users and resellers candidly share their feedback directly with SolidWorks R&D team members. Last year, close to 1800 testers participated in the program.

“I like that there is still some chance to fix things that matter to me, before the software is released… The better job I do in Beta, the better it will run here at our place with everyone.” said Wayne Tiffany, Senior Machine Designer at Automatic Systems, Inc.

If you have some free time you should give it a shot, just remember to backup any files before working with the beta release.  Good luck and happy testing!

Bringing the Human Element to Robotics

Aldebaran Robotics

Challenge:

Bruno Maisonnier, founder and CEO of Aldebaran Robotics, wanted to develop and empower people with a robot that could interact.  Three years after starting to sell NAO models, over 2000 Robots have been sold worldwide, Aldebaran Robotics has now released the latest generation of its programmable humanoid robots, which is intended for research, teaching and, more generally, for exploring the new area of service.

Solution:

In doing so, Aldebaran Robotics, utilizes the full potential of SolidWorks 3D design, analysis, and motion simulation software to optimize mechanical design of the robot to determine if it can withstand stresses applied to the robot.  Once validation of the design is complete with SolidWorks they move on to production.  Using SolidWorks they are able to project the Robot and components in to the future and improve design and optimize performance before parts are manufactured, before they exist.

See how Bruno and his team created humanoid robots that help people!

What Could YOU Do With Over 100 3D Printing Materials??

A NEW RECORD IN 3D PRINTING! THE 100 MATERIAL RANGE BARRIER HAS BEEN BROKEN BY OBJET!

3D Printed Classic Cars in Multiple Materials

Objet, the innovation leader in 3D printing for rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing has announced 39 new ‘Digital Materials’ available with its Objet Connex range of multi-material 3D printing systems. This development places Objet customers at the forefront of additive manufacturing in terms of range of possible printing materials to choose from.

Customers can now select from 107 materials ranging from rigid to rubber-like substances in terms of texture, standard to ABS-grade engineering plastic in terms of toughness, as well as from transparent to opaque, in terms of clarity and shades.

For more details on Objet Materials, click here.

90 of the 107 materials made available by Objet are ‘Digital Materials’, derived by the composite mixing of primary Objet materials. This enables designers, engineers and manufacturers to simulate very precise material properties to closely resemble their intended end-product with the greatest level of realism.

The use of the Objet Connex multi-material 3D printer allows users to also combine up to 14 of these materials; such as rigid and flexible, or opaque and transparent materials, at the same time in a single consistent model.

Check out this link for the full story, which includes a video on all the material combinations!
