Foreshortened Dimensions: How Do They Work?

Usually when detailing a drawing, we will add a detailed view. Dimensioning this view can be a difficult task, but SolidWorks is always working to make that task easier. One of the tools they have given is an option called foreshortened dimensions. This option allows for the dimension of a radius or diameter to be placed into the view, without regard to the center line or the center point of the part. Please watch the video attached to see how this option works.

SolidWorks 2013 Sneak Peek!

One of the SolidWorks 2013 Sneak Peek Features from the SolidWorks Blog…

In SolidWorks 2013, you can exclude selected components in Interference Detection. You can filter components with matching cosmetic threads from Interference Detection results and place them in a separate folder. You can exclude interferences involving hidden components, as well as exclude selected components from Interference Detection results. Optionally, you can specify to remember components to exclude from session to session. This video shows how this applies to cosmetic threads.

SolidWorks Helps to Develop Advanced Packing Technologies

Get automated with the SolidWorks family of products and partner products!

SolidWorks is more than just a mechanical CAD program.  It is a family of software packages that includes data management, simulation, technical documentation, and sustainability.  All of this software works hand-in-hand to help companies maximize time and resources.

OYSTAR Packaging Logo

Fortune 100 companies rely on OYSTAR North America’s Packaging Technologies Group for the development of rapid filling and packaging machines. While the company’s expertise has made it the world’s largest aerosol equipment manufacturer, OYSTAR also produces a variety of other filling machines that package products as varied as yogurt, applesauce, and coffee.

“…We needed a 3D design system to develop our packaging machines more precisely and realize improved efficiencies, so we could respond to customer demand for faster turnaround. Using 3D, we believed we could leverage automated design, simulation, and configuration tools to meet our goals.” – Nate Smith, MAP Applications manager

OYSTAR Processing Machine

Challenge:

Speed up development of sophisticated filling and packaging machines to support growth while simultaneously boosting machine performance.

Solution:

Standardize on SolidWorks design, SolidWorks Simulation analysis, and SolidWorks Enterprise PDM (product data management) software to accelerate development.

Results:

–          Reduced design cycles by 50 to 60 percent

–          Accelerated production throughput tenfold in some cases

–          Cut configurable design time from weeks to days

–          Increased revenue

Bringing the Human Element to Robotics

Aldebaran Robotics

Challenge:

Bruno Maisonnier, founder and CEO of Aldebaran Robotics, wanted to develop and empower people with a robot that could interact.  Three years after starting to sell NAO models, over 2000 Robots have been sold worldwide, Aldebaran Robotics has now released the latest generation of its programmable humanoid robots, which is intended for research, teaching and, more generally, for exploring the new area of service.

Solution:

In doing so, Aldebaran Robotics, utilizes the full potential of SolidWorks 3D design, analysis, and motion simulation software to optimize mechanical design of the robot to determine if it can withstand stresses applied to the robot.  Once validation of the design is complete with SolidWorks they move on to production.  Using SolidWorks they are able to project the Robot and components in to the future and improve design and optimize performance before parts are manufactured, before they exist.
